  1. india is full of currupted people…….. money is becming everything for people…… shame on people who call them doctors but they play with lives of people.

  2. The irony in that comment is hilarious.U want to trust the government,of all people,to not use their power to take bribes?
Ask ur parents why they ran away from India in the first place. It is very possible they were running away from what is called ‘license raj’.
With governments handing out licenses, the bribes required to be paid to get this permit, that permit, some license will increase in a big way.
Think about this,a bunch of people who probably have a ‘babu’ relative will get help.U will not

  3. The govt needs to cut spending & not increase it.Look at our fiscal deficit. These ideas that are being talked about in the comments section and on this show are stuck in the 80s.
How can we trust our inefficient and inept govt to spend our money wisely??
They have too little accountability and too much power.
So your comment is a little funny for someone with a dark sense of humour like me.I’m hoping you are still completing your education.

  4. My dad almost died in a shit govt hospital that we preferred to cut costs at the time.
He is an ex fighter pilot & they almost killed him with shit testing & low quality infrstructure.
What happened next was that the govt hospital doctors themselves, made it clear that we should shift him to a certain private hospital.
MORE competition is required, which will lower the cost of drugs.Otherwise will have big pharma companies selling drugs for a relatively high rate for India.contd-

  5. So you want doctors to kill their ambition and follow a utopian method that works for a country that has a population smaller than most indian states?
I will be polite to you because you are canadian and don’t know much about india.
In india, stats have proved conclusively that even poor people and the lower middle classes-leave alone the rich and the upper middle classes-prefer private hospitals and doctors to govt hospitals.
In the latter they have to pay bribes & get 3rd rate treatment.

  6. I see you are a doctor. And i believe you are a honest man. But we have to face the truth dude, definitely you would be well aware of this fact and pretending as if it’s not true is not going to solve any problem. Sorry dude, i abused you a bit, but actually i was hyper due to this episode, I am really sorry. I am deleting my comment now.

  7. Salaam Aamir Sahib, Jeena to hai usi ka, jisne yeh raaz jaana; hai kaam aadmi kaa, auron ke kaam aana.
Srif apne Rabb ko yaad ya ibadat kerne se deen yah dharam pura nahi ho sakta hai, jab tak doosron ke saat ek shaqs kooyee nekhi yah bhalaai nahi karega, yeh taalim hamne Qur`aan (2:112) se payee hai. Nahi to sab ibaadatein yah poojayein adhura rahega.Salaam aur Namashkaar.

  8. Yes, because he is given a target to meet. If he doesn’t meet the target, he will be fired. He will do all tricks to get his target. Its not his conscious but the company’s everyone should think of. I have been through this (in different way). It made me sick, quit the job and left the country.

  9. That is not true. You need to check your facts. I have lived in 13 countries all over the world and I can say that Sweden, Canada has lowest cost to quality ratio. Indian healthcare is cheaper, so is the quality. Even in the US, although I consider it as one of the worse healthcare systems, it could be cheaper if you know how to navigate the system.

  10. Its not the best system either. Referrals is a HUGE issue, drugs are usually not covered, Still LOT better than India. Indian population is huge so they may need to look at Taiwan for the system. Taiwan has small population so are the number of docs. Sweden, Finland are other countries to look at.

  11. Those who are interested in guying generic drugs, visit medguideindia (website) or MIMS India (website) and find generic equivalent of the drug prescribed. OR there is book called as CIMS, costs about 100 rupees buy it and see the generics. They won’t be as cheaper as from wholesaler, still you will save a lot. This book is updated every month but you can buy once in 6 months and should be OK.

  12. Wife is physiotherapist. Used to give 50% to docs for referral. After 3 years of practicing in India, left India and now in US. Earns decent amount, hard work but very fulfilling.

  13. My experiences, many may follow. After studies, started working on a phase 3 clinical trial. Worked with about 84 docs all over the India, found only 4 to be working with ethics. Fired 8 from premium institute in Delhi for greedy for money. Details on this issue out of scope of this comment. Had to bribe a doctor with cell phone (this is 1999) to let us work in that hospital. Felt terrible, quit job and left India, now in the US (but US healthcare is not the best either, Canada, Sweden trumps).

  14. What a foolish man this MCI head seems to be. I can’t believe someone this clueless and dishonest is the head of such an important office

  15. 1.EVERY GOVERNMENT MEDICAL CENTRE IN INDIA HAS GENERIC SHOPS PERHAPS U DONT KNOW,ITS UP TO U GENERIC OR BRAND
2.SUPPOSE BRANDS ABOLISHED AND ONLY GENERICS PREVAIL
IN THIS CASE CHEMIST WILL SELL ONLY THOSE COMPAN’S DRUGS WHO ARE
GIVING HIM HIGHEST MARGIN THIS WILL BE DANGEROUS
    QUALITY OF DRUGS=0,
3.ALL OVER THE WORLD HEALTH CARE COST IS LOWEST IN INDIA
IF U DONT BELEIVE ME CHECK IT.
    LIKES IF U AGREE
PROBLEM IS NOT THE COST, PROBLEM IS REACH OF HEALTH CARE TO POOREST OF POOR

  16. One close friend on mine is MBA and is into Marketing Pharma, he takes Doctors on tours for fun(drink & sex) around the world so that they will prescribe drugs from the Pharma Company in his marketing for. That’s what Doctors profession has come too in India.

  17. The some Giant Pharma Companies in India are the main culprit to corrupt the Docs and they are doing these because of not having a Strong Pharmaceuticals Laws and Policies in our country. Doctors can be tracked but who will scan the pharma companies.

  18. Dear Amir Khan SAAB, DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS THE LIFE STORY OF MEDICAL REP IN INDIA. BEFORE MAKING A COMMENT PUBLICLY KINDLY MAKE A RESEARCH ON IT. I LIKE YOUR SHOW SPECIALLY THIS EPISODE. BUT MEDICAL REPS ARE NOT AGENTS. TO KNOW MORE MAKE AN EPISODE ON THE LIFE STORY OF A MEDICAL REPS AND I HOPE YOU WILL COME TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF COUNTRY WE LIVE AND WHAT IS OUR COUNTRY’S POLICY, or PLEASE CONTACT “FMRAI” (Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives India, New Delhi.)

  19. IT IS A WELL KNOWN FACT THAT TODAY THE GOVERNMENT INSPITE OF KNOWING THE TRUTH BEHIND THE INCREASE OF DRUG PRICES IS DOING NOTHING TO CURE IT.EVERY YEAR DRUG COMPANIES SPEND HUGE AMOUNT IN THE NAME OF CMEs,FOREIGN TRIP WITH FAMILY,CASH KINDS ETC ETC AND BY ANY HOW THEY ALSO GET RID OF ANY FINANCIAL HARRACEMENTS.BUT MEDICAL REPS(NOT AGENTS)FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES GIVEN TO THEM BY THEIR COMPANY,TO SAFE THEIR JOBS AND EARN A LIVING.STEPS AGANIST THESE PHARMA GIANTS AND CORRUPT DOC SHOULD BE TAKEN.

  20. You are right. Actually they know that most of their colleagues take bribe to prescribe the medicines, but when you say something, they gather together like crows. They don’t want to say anything. I remember few years back in Canada one doctor came back from a cruise organised by a pharma co. because he thought it was unethical to attend that meeting as there was no info or seminar but doctors were being given kind of bribe. But see, one doctor among 130 doctors who realized it.

  21. Forget about Indian public health system which is in shambles. In fact there is no perfect health delivery system in this world.Canadian health system has problem too. Canadian population is aging and Health care cost in Canada is sky rocketing. In the long term Canada can not sustain and they have to reach a compromise with opening private sector. Not to mention the waiting period for elective surgery in Canada and many travel abroad for treatment/ surgery. No perfect health system in this world.

  22. You are comparing apple to oranges.Even though India’s total GDP is larger than Canadian GPD, Canadians spends 10% of there total GPD towards health while India spend less then 2% of its GPD towards health.India spend 2.5% of its GDP towards its military while Canada spend only 1.4%.What else do you expect when Italian mafia is ruling India? Italian bartender and her buffoon son is the leader of India. They don’t care if people die of diseases.

  23. Some Doctors here are only trying to find any loopholes in this episode. We all know like you said how doctors demand commission prescribing medicines/referring for scans etc…. But none want to address it.

Will there be a day when Gov: Strictly directs all doctors to write Generic Names of Medicines, not Brand Names?.

Some doctors concern for quality is laughable. They are not asking for making quality checks stringent but are asking for branded medicines.

  24. I love this show & express my commiserations to Major Rai. It’s shocking that the doctor did not seek informed consent. However, there are some factual errors in his statements: (i) Most people don’t live 15-20 years on dialysis; the five year mortality is 50% (ii) it sounds extremely unlikely that anyone would infuse 60 litres (240 units) of blood into a person intra-op or post-op. I think his doctors made several errors, but there is no need to exaggerate to make this point.

  25. BEWARE PATIENTS !!!!
Apollo Hospitals is one of industry in INDIA where a complete racket is under function to extract/loot money from needy patients and peoples.
To be honest…Apollo(Bhubaneswar) engages young doctors to treat patients…They are very careless and arrogant and they behave such to create panic and extract money….Apollo charges are exorbitant….and in return engages young doctors by paying less….
    (As experienced personally)
